Prof. Iwona Sagan with the Smart Metropolia Award

On November 7 at the Awards Gala held as part of the Smart Metropolia 2019 Congress, prof. Iwona Sagan was honoured in the “Partner in Action” category. It is an expression of recognition for many years of her activity for the benefit of metropolitan integration in our region, which she conducts both in terms of theory and practice. In 2011, together with Zbigniew Canowiecki, she published the book “Between integration and competition. Gdańsk-Gdynia Metropolitan Area “. Between 2011 and 2013 prof. Sagan used to be the chairwoman of the Team of Experts at the Gdańsk Bay Metropolitan Council. Currently, she has been an expert in the Observatory of Urban and Metropolitan Processes of the University of Silesia and the Observatory of Urban Policy of the Institute of Urban and Regional Development at the Ministry of Investment and Development.

Professor Sagan received an award from professor Grzegorz Gorzelak (Center for European Regional and Local Studies at the University of Warsaw). Tczew Bicycle Couriers (in the Change Leader category) and Elżbieta Bieńkowska (in the Metropolitan Ambassador category) were honored in the other fields. A special prize was posthumously awarded to President Paweł Adamowicz for his contribution to the development of metropolitan cooperation within the Pomerania region.
